Ending the Year Right

This has been a very special year for us because it’s the year that we at Eskritoryo Pilipinas first got together to stand behind two causes that we firmly believe in — literacy and the environment. In between all the plans and the perspiration, the dreams and the disappointments, we were helped, supported, and inspired by so many other people around us. Friends who lent a hand. Organizations who advised us and helped us along the way. Writers who crafted amazing stories to share with the world. Kids and teachers who didn’t let anything get in the way of their love for reading. Leaders who showed us that we should never be afraid of hard work.

Now that Christmas is just around the corner, we thought of giving something back.

This year we’re making our list of 12 Filipino books that we’d like to give out to family and friends, young or old, readers or non-readers. Of course, they’re filled with things dear to us. There’s the illustrated story of the diverse life in a bakawan or mangrove forest. There’s also a new adult story about a college student who meets the Sun God and takes on the most unusual part-time job. To find out which titles made it to our list, just follow us on Twitter (or check out #12Books4Christmas).

Another thing we’re working on is our book drive for the Youth P.O.W.E.R. Reading Program at Kalayaan National High School in Caloocan City. We’re accepting new and pre-loved books that you think these reading-mad kids would devour. Contact us if you have any books that you would like to donate.

We at Eskritoryo wish you a blessed holiday season. May your year end with as much joy (and maybe more!) as ours has.
